McElroy Park’s Second Renovation Phase Transforms Youth Baseball in Jamestown

New fields, batting cages, and community investment set the stage for a vibrant sports hub

The second phase of renovations at McElroy Park in Jamestown has been finished, delivering two Cal Ripken‑style baseball fields, two T‑ball diamonds and a set of batting cages that together modernize the former Al Boelke fields.

Phase Two Unveiled

The project, completed in just three weeks, carried a price tag of $2 million and was financed through a mix of general‑obligation bond proceeds and private donations, underscoring a public‑private partnership that aims to sustain the park’s growth.

While the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Foundation continues to seek additional contributions, the broader fundraising campaign for the three‑phase overhaul began in April 2022, and to date more than $4 million has been secured across the four‑year effort.

Community Impact

Since the fields opened, they have hosted the Buffalo City Bash tournament and regularly accommodate games for players ranging from six to nineteen years old, with the complex now serving 336 youth and collegiate baseball participants and 147 fastpitch softball athletes each season.

Organizers anticipate roughly 50,000 visitors annually, and the positive reception from local and visiting teams suggests the upgraded complex will remain a regional hub for amateur baseball and softball for years to come, provided the foundation can meet its remaining funding goals.
