McNeese State University’s baseball program celebrated a rare sweep of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s All‑Louisiana team honors, with three of its athletes earning spots on the prestigious list.
First‑Team Standout
Eric Nachtsheim, a right‑handed pitcher, anchored the Cowboys’ rotation, pacing the staff with 129 strikeouts in just 93 innings and earning Southland Conference Relief Pitcher of the Year. His dominant performances helped McNeese clinch a share of the conference title and secured his placement on the first team.
Honorable Mentions and Offensive Firepower
Freshman Hayden Stringfellow and senior Danny Barbero joined Nachtsheim on the second tier of recognition, each receiving honorable‑mention accolades after impressive offensive seasons. Stringfellow batted .294 with a .434 slugging percentage, smacking 11 doubles, a triple and six home runs, while Barbero posted a .300 average and a .542 slugging percentage, adding 14 doubles, a triple and 11 homers.
Both players also earned spots on the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, underscoring their commitment on the field and in the classroom.
National Spotlight
Nachtsheim’s excellence extended beyond state borders. He was selected to the 2026 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All‑South Region Team and earned a place on the Perfect Game All‑America Second Team. Barbero, meanwhile, captured First Team All‑Southland Conference honors and was named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week in May, highlighting his impact throughout the season.
The trio’s achievements reflect a program that continues to develop talent capable of competing at the highest levels of collegiate baseball.
