The Mecklenburg County High School junior varsity girls’ soccer team capped a remarkable season by securing both the regular‑season crown and the tournament championship in the Piedmont District, a feat that underscores the program’s rapid rise.
Dominant Campaign
Coached by Nathaniel Redman, Michelle Peters and Miller Ruff, the squad blended offensive firepower with disciplined defending, finishing the district slate unbeaten and dropping only a handful of goals across a packed schedule.
Championship Victory
In the tournament final the team faced Halifax County and emerged victorious with a 3‑0 shutout. Goalie Sarah Hudson was outstanding, making five saves to preserve the clean sheet, while Lillian Beatty earned Player of the Game honors for her commanding defensive work.
Juliana Ruff led the scoring with two goals in the final, bringing her season total to 25 and cementing her status as the team’s offensive anchor. Aubree Bilak added a pair of goals, raising her tally to 19 for the year, and Hayden Puryear contributed the third marker.
Regular‑Season Finale
The team closed out the regular season with a 6‑1 triumph over Magna Vista, a match that featured a four‑goal burst from Bilak and a two‑goal effort from Ruff, who together pushed her season goal count to 25. The win sealed the district title and left the coaching staff optimistic about the program’s future.
Beyond the scoreboard, several players stood out for their all‑around contributions. Bailey Jackson, LeAnn Wagstaff and Lainey Jackson each recorded assists, while Valerie Harrup, Kaitlyn Moseley, Leslie Gomez‑Sanchez, Helen Tzompaxle Montalvo, Katherine Villanueva‑Garcia and Lucy Okoye provided depth across midfield and attack. Defensively, Lillian Beatty’s timely clearances and cover work proved decisive in several close moments.
