A Conversational Leap
Megan Rapinoe, the two‑time World Cup champion and Olympic gold‑medalist, is stepping into a new medium with the launch of her interview podcast, Why Are You Like This?, produced in partnership with Vox Media.
The series will debut on Thursday, August 6, and will release new episodes each week on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and YouTube, each running roughly an hour.
In each installment Rapinoe plans to unpack personal milestones, professional trajectories, the legacies she hopes to leave and what she calls the cost of living a public life, moving the conversation beyond the soccer field.
Her long‑standing activism, especially her vocal support for trans rights, has become inseparable from her public persona and now informs the themes she intends to explore.
The podcast follows the end of her previous show, A Touch More, which she co‑hosted with former fiancé Sue Bird, marking a deliberate shift from competition on the pitch to dialogue in the studio.
While a guest list has yet to be finalized, the format promises a natural progression for one of the most recognizable figures in U.S. women’s soccer, who sees conversation as the next frontier.
