A Recruiting Coup for the Badgers
Mekhi Williams, a four‑star safety out of Lennard High School in Florida, has officially committed to the University of Wisconsin, bringing an end to a short‑lived pledge to Florida State.
Standing at 6‑foot‑3 and 165 pounds, Williams is celebrated for his length, range and ball‑hawking skills, having amassed 74 tackles, 10 interceptions and 10 pass breakups over three varsity seasons.
His decision follows an official visit to Madison and a re‑evaluation of his recruitment, a move closely watched by Badgers defensive coordinator Paul Haynes, who sees the player as a natural fit for the cornerback position.
Coach Luke Fickell highlighted the signing as a clear signal of Wisconsin’s evolving recruiting strategy, one that aims to close the gap with traditional powerhouses and rebuild a defense capable of contending for championships.
The commitment adds depth to a class that already includes prospects like Hayes Fawcett and Dillon Graff, and it underscores the program’s ambition to attract top talent from outside its traditional recruiting footprint.
Williams will join a roster that has already attracted attention from recruits such as Brady Collins and Robert Steeples, further enriching the Badgers’ defensive backfield and providing a boost to the coaching staff’s long‑term vision.
