The 2nd Annual Officer Chris Oberheim Baseball Memorial Tournament is set to light up the fields of Forsyth from June 5 through June 7, bringing together youth baseball teams, first responders and families for a weekend of competition and remembrance.
Organized by Chris Oberheim’s niece, Kelsey Washburn, and her husband, Wyatt Washburn, the event honors the fallen Champaign Police Officer whose life was cut short five years ago while on duty.
Remembering a hero on and off the diamond
Last year’s tournament drew hundreds of young athletes from across Illinois, and this year’s edition expands to include 34 teams in the 8U and 9U divisions, representing communities from the suburbs to the southern part of the state.
In addition to the games, participants will enjoy a first‑responder parade that winds through the town and a Touch‑a‑Truck experience that lets children explore the equipment and vehicles used by police, fire and emergency services.
All proceeds from ticket sales, concessions and special fundraising activities will benefit the Illinois Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors, a nonprofit that provides support to the families and colleagues of fallen officers.
The tournament stands as a vivid illustration of how sport can unite a community, celebrate sacrifice and raise vital resources for those left behind.
