Memphis Tigers kicked off their season at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium on September 7, drawing a sellout crowd eager to see the team’s new-look offense under coach Charles Huff.
Commitment to Enhance Game‑Day Experience
However, fans quickly voiced a litany of grievances as they moved through the venue, citing difficulty finding parking, lengthy lines at concession stands, chaotic traffic flow outside the stadium, and a scoreboard that mistakenly displayed “2N QUARTER” instead of “2ND.” Some supporters even reported that the seats assigned to them in Section 901 were nowhere to be found.
Athletic director Ed Scott addressed the outcry on social media before the game concluded, pledging to “do better” and promising a thorough review of the issues raised by the supporters.
In partnership with the City of Memphis, Oak View Group and Sodexo Live!, the athletic department has begun evaluating the problems and arranging for immediate upgrades to parking logistics, concession operations and signage, aiming to deliver a first‑class experience from entry to exit for both single‑game attendees and season ticket holders.
Coach Charles Huff echoed the sentiment, stressing that accountability starts with the staff and that the program will work to correct the shortcomings that marred the opening night.
Scott made it clear that the sellout attendance and recent stadium renovations would not serve as excuses for the lapses, underscoring a commitment to improve service quality regardless of the circumstances.
