Summer Workouts Set the Tone
Summer workouts for the Memphis Tigers are scheduled to begin on June 2, marking the first step toward the 2026‑27 season. Coach Penny Hardaway has outlined a plan that emphasizes toughness, grit and fundamentals from the outset.
A Philosophy of Grit
Hardaway said the team is focused on building a baseline identity built around teamwork, communication and sacrifice. "We want to establish a clear sense of who we are on the floor," he explained, adding that every drill will be measured against that standard.
Roster Dynamics and Early Chemistry
Nine incoming transfers have already been interacting on social media, creating early chemistry that the staff hopes will translate into on‑court cohesion. Jayden Reid, a transfer from Northwestern, is expected to arrive in Memphis this week, joining veterans such as Brandin Cummings, Luke Almodovar, Tylik Weeks, Rihards Vavers, Jerry Deng and Josh Holloway. The blend of experienced players and fresh talent aims to address the team's lack of height, as no player on the current roster exceeds 6‑foot‑9.
The center position battle is shaping up as a duel between Maxim Logue and Corneilous Williams, both listed at 6‑foot‑9 and expected to anchor the glass and protect the rim. Williams enters his fifth season with more experience, while Logue brings a two‑season track record that could complement the team's physical style.
Hardaway may stand pat with a 14‑man roster but could adjust the lineup before the season opener on November 2. The staff remains focused on developing chemistry and executing the fundamentals that define the program's new direction.
