The Colonials will host Georgetown University in an exhibition contest on October 16, with tip‑off scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center. The game marks the second consecutive preseason meeting of the two programs after a 44‑year hiatus, and it carries the weight of a rivalry that has lingered since the late 1970s.
A year ago the two sides attracted a sellout crowd of 4,287 fans, the highest attendance for a men’s basketball game at the venue since 2016, and the atmosphere helped lift the Colonials’ average home attendance from 1,976 to 2,271 spectators. That surge underscored the excitement surrounding the renewed series.
During the regular season the Colonials finished 19‑16, advancing to the second round of the Atlantic 10 Championship before falling to the Saint Louis Billikens 88‑81. Their postseason run continued in the National Invitation Tournament, where they posted a first‑round victory over Utah Valley University before exiting in the second round against the University of New Mexico Lobos.
Georgetown entered the previous season with a 16‑18 record, placing tenth in the Big East, yet they managed to reach the conference semifinals by toppling DePaul University and Villanova University before succumbing to the University of Connecticut Huskies. The Hoyas’ journey highlighted their capacity to upset higher‑seeded opponents.
Head Coach Chris Caputo has voiced his anticipation for the upcoming clash, describing the matchup as “competitive” and the venue’s electric atmosphere as a key factor. “We’re looking forward to giving our fans a memorable experience and finally breaking the streak,” Caputo said.
