Metro Conference Unveils 2026‑27 Men’s Basketball Schedule
The Metro Conference announced its full slate for the 2026‑27 men’s basketball season, confirming that each of the league’s members will contest a 20‑game schedule. The slate blends non‑conference contests with a compact conference slate that resumes after the holiday break, setting the stage for a competitive year.
The centerpiece of the schedule is the Metro Conference Tournament, which will take place in Atlantic City from March 4 through March 9, culminating with the championship game on March 9. The top ten teams in the league will qualify for the tournament, where they will battle for the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Opening night of conference play arrives on December 2, when Saint Peter’s hosts Manhattan in the first of several marquee matchups. A week later, on December 4, the reigning regular‑season champion Merrimack will travel to face Siena in a rematch of the previous year’s championship game. Nevada Smith, who has taken over as Siena’s head coach, will make his debut in that contest, succeeding Gerry McNamara, who has moved on to a new role at Syracuse.
Conference play will feature a balanced home‑and‑away format, with each team hosting and visiting two opponents while playing the remaining games on the road or at neutral sites. The schedule includes a six‑game slate on New Year’s Day, January 1, highlighted by a clash between Saint Peter’s and Quinnipiac, as well as Iona versus Siena.
The league will also showcase several traditional rivalries throughout the season. Siena and Marist will meet on January 31 and February 28, while Manhattan and Iona will square off on February 5 and February 19. Saint Peter’s will host Rider on January 3 and January 24, adding to a slate of historic matchups that draw fan interest.
Mid‑season action will be punctuated by MLK Day games, including Canisius versus Fairfield and Manhattan versus Siena, providing additional exposure for the conference’s competitive depth. Fairfield’s final season in the Metro Conference will be marked by the presence of returning All‑Rookie selections Declan Wucherpfennig and Keith McKnight, who are expected to influence the team’s performance.
The regular season will conclude on Sunday, February 28, after which the top ten teams will travel to Atlantic City for the tournament. With two Saturday game days scheduled for the 2026‑27 campaign — down from three in the previous year — the league aims to streamline its calendar while preserving the intensity of its conference play.
Looking Ahead
As the new season approaches, the Metro Conference remains poised to deliver a compelling mix of rivalries, new coaching storylines, and tournament drama. Fans can anticipate a schedule that balances tradition with fresh narratives, all leading toward the March championship in Atlantic City.
