A three‑day basketball immersion
The Metter Tiger Youth Basketball Camp ran from May 26 through May 28 at the Metter K‑8 Complex, drawing elementary and middle‑school students eager to sharpen their game.
Coach William Altman and a team of high school assistants guided campers through fundamentals such as shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding and defensive positioning, while also stressing teamwork, a positive attitude and sportsmanship.
Each day featured a slate of contests — free‑throw shoots, a 3‑point challenge, lay‑up drills and a knock‑out tournament — while team play unfolded in 3‑on‑3 and 5‑on‑5 scrimmages that let the youngsters apply what they had learned.
Championship Thursday and community gratitude
Championship Thursday capped the schedule with final rounds for both individual contests and team competitions, turning the gym into a lively arena of cheers and friendly rivalry.
Coach Altman took the opportunity to thank volunteers including Marsha Pate and Eric McNair, as well as the high school players who lent their expertise, underscoring the collaborative spirit that defines Metter’s basketball program.
Sponsors such as Adams Poultry, Awards South, LLC, Metter Bank and a host of other community partners contributed resources and enthusiasm, illustrating how local commerce can directly support youth initiatives.
The Metter Tiger basketball program extended its appreciation to players, parents, coaches, school staff and all community supporters, promising that the momentum generated will carry into future seasons.
