Mexico City is set to become the epiccenter of football nostalgia as it prepares to welcome a sweeping soccer exhibit that will run from late March through August 2026, just months before the inaugural matches of the 2026 World Cup.
A treasure trove of football history
The showcase will feature more than 15,000 objects, among them Pelé’s iconic crown, match‑worn shirts from 90 national teams, and memorabilia linked to legends such as Diego Maradona, David Beckham, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as Jorge Campos and other iconic figures.
Visitors can step into recreated locker rooms, watch archival footage on giant screens, and even hear their own voices reverberate in a simulated stadium, giving a visceral sense of being part of the game.
Celebrating legends and their legacies
Pelé, who lifted three World Cups with Brazil in 1958, 1962 and 1970, is highlighted not only for his trophy haul but also for popularising moves such as the run‑around feint and the bicycle kick. His crown, alongside jerseys from Maradona, Beckham, Messi, Ronaldo and others, serves as a bridge between generations of fans.
The curation team includes Gabriel Bustamante and Ricardo River, who have guided the selection of artifacts and overseen the design of interactive zones.
A prelude to a historic tournament
Organized by the Museo Yancuic, the exhibit leverages the museum’s expertise to curate an immersive experience that will travel with fans from the present excitement to the upcoming global tournament. As the countdown to the 2026 World Cup accelerates, the showcase offers new audiences a chance to discover the sport’s rich tapestry while longtime supporters can relive cherished memories, ensuring that the passion for football continues to grow across borders.
