The MHS youth football skills camp ran from August 11 through 13, 2026 at the historic Madras Football Stadium, drawing roughly twenty‑five to thirty youngsters each day.
Under the direction of Andrew McConnell, the Madras High School varsity coach, the program emphasized a hands‑on curriculum that let each camper experience every offensive and defensive role.
Position Mastery
Defensive sessions rotated participants through the D Line, linebacker and secondary spots, drilling proper stance and the all‑important first step.
On the offensive side, quarterbacks worked on throwing mechanics and footwork, receivers practiced stance and route cuts, while linemen focused on stance, initial movement and blocking technique.
All instruction was delivered by high school athletes who had recently mastered the same skills, giving the campers relatable role models and reinforcing the learning loop.
The camp culminated in a series of competitive games, including a fast‑paced speed ball match and a playful water balloon toss that blended skill with laughter.
Beyond technique, the event sought to embed a love for the sport, encouraging growth and enjoyment that participants could carry into the upcoming season.
