Eight divisions will each feed into eight‑team regionals, creating a compact bracket that culminates in championship finals scheduled for November 27 and 28. The new arrangement guarantees that the higher‑seeded program in each regional will host its first‑round game, giving it a familiar environment and a potential edge in momentum.
More than 100,000 high school athletes are slated to take part in football practices as the state kicks off fall sports. Regular‑season competition begins in mid‑August, setting the stage for a condensed but intense schedule that will see the postseason wrap up before the end of November.
MHSAA officials say the reform is intended to clarify the route to the regional finals and to reduce ambiguity that previously surrounded bracket placement. By tying seeding directly to measurable playoff performance, the association hopes to provide a clearer, more transparent progression for schools, coaches and fans alike.
