A Stormy Start
Mia Gray, a native of Rochester, New York, arrived in Gainesville, Florida, eager to join the University of Florida’s soccer program, only to find her welcome disrupted by the sudden arrival of Hurricane Debby.
The storm forced a rapid adjustment, but it also set the tone for a freshman season defined by resilience and quick adaptation.
Roots in a Sports Family
Gray’s upbringing was steeped in competition; her parents, Chris and Gina, and her younger sister Ava all participated in athletics, creating a household where victory and defeat were daily conversations.
From the moment she first touched a soccer ball at age three, Gray’s talent blossomed, leading her to dominate at the youth level with the WNY Flash Soccer Academy.
Her high school career at Byron‑Bergen High School featured four consecutive state championship appearances, and she was repeatedly honored as Class C Player of the Year by the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization in 2024 and 2025.
A Rapid Rise
After graduating early, Gray seized the opportunity to enroll at the University of Florida, where she entered spring training alongside a cohort of seasoned players.
The experience proved transformative; surrounded by teammates who pushed her limits, she found a new well of motivation that would shape her collegiate outlook.
Chasing a Championship
Now a freshman, Gray’s primary objective is to guide the Gators deep into the NCAA Tournament, a goal inspired by the legacy of former Florida star Abby Wambach, whose career she admires from afar.
Wambach’s impact on the program continues to echo, and Gray hopes to add her own chapter to the story of Florida soccer excellence.
