Bowling Green State University announced this week that Mia Ugarte has officially joined the Falcons’ women’s soccer roster, slated to begin competition in the 2026‑27 campaign. The signing adds a player whose adaptability on the front line and in midfield could reshape the team’s tactical options.
Ugarte, a 20‑year‑old forward who also operates as a central midfielder, brings a rare blend of attacking flair and playmaking vision to the squad. Her arrival marks the eleventh addition to the roster for the upcoming season and signals the coaching staff’s intent to deepen depth across multiple positions.
Versatility Defines Her Game
Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Ugarte honed her skills in the Ontario Player Development League, where she helped Ottawa South United secure the second Gary Miller Charity Shield. That experience, coupled with a strong collegiate background, prepared her for the next step in her career.
Her professional debut came in the Northern Super League on May 3, 2025, when she entered the game in the 80th minute for Ottawa Rapid FC. The league features six clubs, including Montreal Roses FC, AFC Toronto, Halifax Tides FC, Vancouver Rise FC, Calgary Wild FC, and her former side, Ottawa Rapid FC.
Ugarte’s first appearance for the Falcons will be in an exhibition match against Purdue on August 5 at 4 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium. The game will serve as a preview of how her dual‑position skill set can be woven into the team’s strategy as the new season approaches.
