Miami University's men's basketball program is preparing for the 2026‑27 season with a fresh set of leaders. Head coach Travis Steele took the opportunity to announce the captains who will guide the Redhawks on the court.
Captains Chosen for a New Era
Almar Atlason, a sophomore forward, earned the honor after a solid first season in which he posted averages of 9.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists. His steady presence and work ethic have already made him a fan favorite.
Evan Ipsaro, the senior guard, was selected despite a challenging end to his previous campaign. After averaging 13.9 points, 3.2 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals before missing the final 22 games due to injury, his return to full health has sparked optimism among teammates and staff.
Luke Skaljac, the junior point guard, rounds out the trio. He was recognized with All‑MAC Third Team honors in 2025‑26, started 21 games and dished out 4.7 assists per contest. His playmaking was on display in a double‑double against Buffalo and a career‑high 24‑point effort versus Bowling Green.
Skaljac also finished the season ranked 64th nationally in assist‑to‑turnover ratio at 2.57, underscoring his efficiency as a floor general. The coaching staff believes his vision and scoring ability will be pivotal as the team aims for a strong conference run.
Coach Steele emphasized that the trio brings a blend of experience, resilience and playmaking skill. "We have full confidence in these young men to represent Miami with distinction," he said, noting that their leadership will shape the team's identity moving forward.
