Miami University’s football program is buzzing after a recent practice that spotlighted redshirt freshman quarterback David McComb, the latest transfer from the University of Kansas who is slated to lead the offense when the RedHawks open the 2026 season against Pittsburgh at Acrisure Stadium on September 6.
Head coach Chuck Martin praised the youngster’s rapid ascent, noting that McComb’s playmaking instincts, accuracy and grasp of the playbook have already impressed the staff despite his rookie status.
The session also revealed a setback for the team: redshirt sophomore Thomas Gotkowski, who started the final three games of 2025, will miss the upcoming campaign due to injury, opening the door for Caleb Heavner to assume the second‑string role.
