Miami University Announces All‑American Scholar Athletes
The Collegiate Hockey Association (CHA) and the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) have jointly announced the 2025‑26 All‑American Scholar program, honoring student‑athletes who achieve a minimum 3.75 GPA across both semesters. Miami University’s hockey squad contributed three recipients, underscoring the program’s blend of competitive spirit and scholarly achievement.
John Emmons, a sophomore forward from Washington, Michigan, majors in Finance/Accountancy and carries a cumulative GPA that places him on the scholar list. His on‑ice contributions as a forward have already drawn praise from head coach Dan Lacroix, who highlighted Emmons’ work ethic in both the classroom and the rink.
Ethan Hay, a freshman forward hailing from Waterloo, Ontario, is pursuing a degree in Sport Management. The Ontario native joins the RedHawks after a standout junior career, and his academic standing reflects the university’s emphasis on integrating athletes into rigorous academic programs.
Benji Motew, a freshman goaltender from Glencoe, Illinois, is majoring in Finance. Motew’s agility between the pipes has already made an impact, and his academic performance adds to the growing reputation of Miami’s net‑minders as both scholars and competitors.
The RedHawks are slated to open the 2026‑27 campaign on October 2 against Northern Michigan, a matchup that will showcase the team’s depth and the newly recognized scholars. Coach Lacroix expressed confidence that the blend of veteran leadership and fresh talent positions the squad for a strong start.
Miami University’s athletic department, in partnership with the university’s academic advising office, continues to promote a culture where athletic excellence and academic distinction are mutually reinforcing. The recognition of Emmons, Hay and Motew serves as a model for current and future student‑athletes.
