Michael Anderson was chosen with the 149th overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, marking the highest selection for a Penn State player since Matthew Wood’s 2022 draft.
A graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School in Havertown, Pennsylvania, Anderson entered college with a reputation as the state’s No. 4 first baseman and the 69th‑ranked prospect overall, according to Perfect Game.
After committing to the University of Rhode Island and later transferring to Arkansas, he ultimately landed at Penn State, where he set an NCAA record with a 12‑RBI game in March 2024 and finished his senior season with 20 home runs, 53 RBIs and 32 extra‑base hits in 50 contests.
A two‑way talent on the rise
The Texas Rangers announced Anderson as a two‑way player, praising his 99‑mph fastball that briefly touched the high‑90s in a single college appearance. His pitching prospects, however, were quickly clouded by a torn ulnar collateral ligament that forced him to play through the injury.
Despite the injury, Anderson earned First‑Team All‑Big Ten honors and near‑consensus All‑American recognition, underscoring his impact both at the plate and on the mound.
The draft selection reflects a blend of power, durability and upside that has drawn attention from scouts, even as medical concerns loom over his future as a pitcher.
