Michelle Ugwah Joins Eastern Kentucky Women’s Basketball Program

The Irish forward brings international experience and versatility to the Colonels ahead of the 2026 season

Eastern Kentucky University has secured the commitment of 6‑foot‑1 forward Michelle Ugwah, a Cork native who will join the Colonels' women's basketball program for the 2026‑27 season.

A Global Journey

Ugwah spent the past year at the University of San Francisco, where she appeared in 21 games and posted averages of 4.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest. Her contributions helped the Dons reach the West Coast Conference Tournament quarterfinals and earn a berth in the Women's National Invitation Tournament in 2026.

Before her time in California, Ugwah completed two seasons at Morehead State University, emerging as a redshirt freshman who averaged 7.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. She recorded a career‑high 20 points against Lindenwood and pulled down a personal best 11 rebounds versus Jackson State.

International Experience

Representing Ireland, Ugwah averaged 8.9 points and 7.6 rebounds at the 2024 FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket Division B Championship. She delivered an 18‑point, 18‑rebound performance in a victory over Croatia, underscoring her ability to dominate both ends of the floor.

The Colonels' recent success adds a compelling narrative to Ugwah's arrival. Eastern Kentucky captured the 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference regular‑season title, securing the program's 11th conference championship. Head coach Greg Todd was honored as the 2026 ASUN Coach of the Year, and four players earned all‑conference accolades, including two first‑team selections.

Ugwah is slated to report to campus this summer and will begin offseason workouts with the team, a prospect that excites both players and staff as they look to build on last season's momentum.
