Michigan Basketball’s European Expedition
The Wolverines are set to depart for a nine‑day swing that will take them from the courts of Lithuania to the arenas of Croatia, where they will contest three exhibition matches and immerse themselves in a series of cultural and team‑building activities. The venture is entirely donor‑financed, allowing the program to add an extra ten preseason practices ahead of the 2026‑27 campaign, a benefit that only international travel can provide.
Coach Dusty May emphasized that the tour is as much about competition as it is about cohesion, noting that “the chance to compete, learn, and spend time together” will accelerate the squad’s development as they fine‑tune their identity.
Building Chemistry Across Borders
This iteration of Michigan basketball arrives with a reshaped roster that blends experienced returnees such as Elliot Cadeau, Trey McKenney, Oscar Goodman and Ricky Liburd with a wave of newcomers. Transfers Moustapha Thiam, J.P. Estrella and Jalen Reed have already earned a place in the lineup, while five‑star recruit Brandon McCoy and McDonald’s All‑American Quinn Costello headline a freshman class that also features Yaxel Lendeborg, Will Tschetter, Nimari Burnett, Roddy Gayle Jr., Aday Mara, Morez Johnson Jr., Joseph Hartmann, Malachi Brown, Lincoln Cosby, Marcus Moller, and Tony Garcia, rounding out a diverse mix of talent.
Among the returnees, guard L.J. Cason is currently rehabbing from a torn ACL and will miss the entirety of the 2026‑27 season, a setback that underscores the team’s reliance on the fresh talent and the veterans who remain healthy.
With one roster spot still unfilled, the coaching staff is expected to finalize additions in the coming weeks, ensuring that the European itinerary can be approached with a fully competitive lineup.
