The University of Michigan announced that it has received a verbal commitment from 2027 three-star athlete Lundon Hampton, a running back who will enter the Wolverines' 2027 recruiting class. The announcement was made public on social media and confirmed by multiple recruiting outlets.
Hampton is listed at 6-foot-2 and carries more than 200 pounds, a size that has drawn attention for its rarity among high school backs. He is ranked No. 970 overall by the Rivals Industry Ranking and stands as the No. 24 athlete in the nation according to Rivals' proprietary list.
Rivalry Triumphs
The commitment came after a head-to-head battle with Michigan State and Penn State, both of which were also pursuing the athlete. Michigan's coaching staff, including running backs coach Tony Alford and recruiting analyst Allen Trieu, emphasized his ability to make defenders miss and to catch passes out of the backfield.
Hampton will be joined in the 2027 class by fellow commitments Quentin Burrell, Xavier Muhammad and Tyson Robinson, adding depth to a group that already includes several top prospects. The Wolverines hope his versatility will translate into immediate impact on special teams and as a developmental back.
