A 22‑year‑old Michigan State hockey player was killed early Saturday when his car slammed into a tractor‑trailer that was parked on the right shoulder of northbound Interstate 95 in Caroline County, Virginia. The collision occurred around 3:40 a.m. near the 115‑mile marker, according to Virginia State Police.
Preston J. Korytkowski, a captain of the university’s Division II competitive club team, was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been a standout player for the program and was widely regarded as a leader both on and off the ice.
The driver of the freight truck, which was stopped on the shoulder, suffered only minor injuries and was treated on site before being released. Authorities have not released his name, but said he cooperated fully with investigators.
