Franklin Ibelo joins Michigan State
The Michigan State football program announced that Franklin Ibelo, a 6‑foot‑7, 340‑pound defensive tackle, has committed to the university. Ibelo, who previously played at the University of Calgary, brings a rare combination of size and skill to East Lansing.
During his time with the Calgary Dinos, Ibelo recorded 30 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss, numbers that have attracted considerable attention from power‑conference programs. He will have one year of eligibility remaining, giving the Spartans a short‑term boost for the 2026 roster.
Impact on the defensive line
Coaches expect Ibelo to immediately compete for playing time along the interior of the defensive line. His presence is projected to strengthen the rush defense and provide depth that the program has lacked in recent seasons.
The addition also underscores the growing appeal of the Spartans' program in the transfer portal, as they continue to attract talent from outside the traditional recruiting pipeline.
