A challenging night for the Huskies
The Michigan Tech soccer team traveled to Kearly Stadium on Sunday to meet St. Cloud State University, only to see a 3-0 defeat that underscored recent defensive vulnerabilities.
St. Cloud State struck first when Laney Haviland found the net at 15:34, opening a lead that would grow as the match progressed.
Linsey Trapino, praised by coach Melissa Kuhar as a potential All‑American, added two goals, the second a breakaway in the dying seconds, sealing the victory.
Michigan Tech managed ten shots on goal, eight of them in the second half, with Sophie Rater and Karli Koskinen testing the opposition, while goalkeeper Bri made nine saves, including an early header stop by Abbey Sayers.
Coach Melissa Kuhar acknowledged the opponent’s strength and emphasized the team’s need to be more clinical and maintain focus for a full 90 minutes, especially with upcoming non‑conference fixtures against Northwood and Cedarville.
Despite the setback, the Huskies remain focused on refining their attack and preserving the health of key players for the challenges ahead.
