Michigan Wolverines head coach Kyle Whittingham has been vocal about the positive trajectory his squad has shown during fall camp, emphasizing the depth that has been added across the roster and the competitive spirit among the players.
Wide receiver Channing Goodwin has earned a spot in the Wolverines' rotation, showcasing the kind of playmaking ability that could prove vital in the upcoming season.
Along the defensive line, ends Carter Meadows, Tariq Boney and Nate Marshall are battling for playing time, but each has demonstrated the ability to make impactful plays despite the crowded depth chart.
Quarterback Bryce Underwood has taken a significant step forward since the spring, refining his decision‑making, mastering the offense’s nuances and tightening his footwork, a development that offensive coordinator Jason Beck has tailored to maximize.
The Wolverines are also addressing the tight end position, where freshman Mason Bonner has impressed as a receiver but is still working to build strength and consistency in blocking.
Depth has been a focal point, with the team making strides along the defensive line, at linebacker and in the secondary — areas that were identified as concerns in previous seasons.
Looking Ahead to 2026
Coach Whittingham expressed confidence that Michigan can contend for both the Big Ten championship and a College Football Playoff spot, citing Underwood’s growth, a robust running game and an elevated special‑teams unit as key pillars.
The squad is immersing itself in situational drills and mock game‑week scenarios as they fine‑tune for their season opener against Western Michigan on September 5, 2026.
Players have fully embraced the new coaching staff under Whittingham’s leadership, fostering a culture of accountability and optimism as the Wolverines set their sights on a championship‑caliber season.
