Mid Peninsula High School’s football program, which did not field a team during the 2025 season because of a lack of players, has been handed a lifeline through a $10,000 grant from the Detroit Lions’ Touchdown in Your Town initiative.
The grant, aimed at supporting Michigan high school football and spirit‑cheer programs in need, will fund new shoulder pads, helmets and footballs for the team.
Players learned of the award during a surprise Zoom call organized by the Lions Foundation, a moment that turned into a festive reveal.
Surprise Zoom Call Brings Cheer
The virtual gathering featured a video message from Lions quarterback Jared Goff, who congratulated the squad and outlined the opportunities the funding would create.
Mid Peninsula head coach Chris Reynolds had reached out to the Lions earlier in the year, seeking support to revive the program, and his call was answered with both financial assistance and a tangible gesture of goodwill.
As part of the partnership, the Lions will transport the team to the preseason matchup between the Lions and the Commanders on August 22, and the Wolverines — Mid Peninsula’s mascot — will be honored on the field during the game.
Excitement was palpable when freshman Wesley Reynolds expressed his enthusiasm, saying the grant reignites his hope of contributing to the sport he loves.
Looking ahead, the program plans to field a full roster for the 2026 season, opening the campaign on September 3 at Stephenson, while the community celebrates the renewed momentum.
