Middletown High School eyes rebound after record‑breaking 2025
The Middies finished the 2025 campaign with an 11‑3 record, capping a season that featured a Region 2 championship, a 7‑2 mark in Greater Miami Conference play and a trip to the Division I state semifinals. Their defense limited opponents to just 9.0 points and 173.6 yards per game, delivering four shutouts in the playoffs, a performance that set a new standard for the program.
However, the team will have to replace key defensive stalwarts such as C.J. Bryant, J.D. Singletary and Jordan Vann, who graduated after helping forge that historic shut‑down unit. The loss of that experience forces a shift in identity as the coaching staff seeks fresh leaders on that side of the ball.
Among the returning pieces is senior defensive lineman Jaiden Davis, who contributed 50 tackles, 8.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss last season. His presence, combined with an experienced offensive core, gives the squad a foundation to build on as they navigate a tough early schedule.
Early tests and a new offensive look
The 2026 season opens with back‑to‑back road games against Elder on Aug. 21 and Princeton on Aug. 28 at Barnitz Stadium, matchups that will gauge the team’s progress early on. Coach Kali Jones, now in his third year, has spent a 16‑week preparation window to fine‑tune a revamped offensive scheme and determine a quarterback competition that could add versatility to the attack.
Despite the departure of several defensive stars, the coaching staff remains confident that the blend of returning talent and fresh strategic direction will keep the Middies competitive in the Greater Miami Conference. The community eagerly anticipates whether the team can translate its historic 2025 momentum into another successful campaign.
