Midland Christian football team looks ahead to 2026 season after promising spring camp

Coach Phil Dawson and returning star Stacy Jones praise unity and depth as the Mustangs prepare for another campaign

Spring camp leaves a strong impression

Midland Christian’s football program wrapped up two weeks of spring workouts with its annual Blue and White game at Gordon Awtry Field, giving Coach Phil Dawson a chance to assess the squad in a game‑like setting.

Dawson said he liked what he saw, noting the team’s unity and the progress made during a focused ten‑day stretch that highlighted the work put in during the offseason.

The Mustangs finished the previous season at 8‑4 and reached the TAPPS Division II regional round, a campaign in which the defense ranked among the best in the Permian Basin.

While the defense will miss some key seniors, the offense returns the most experience, anchored by quarterback Jaxon Franco, running back Caleb Cruz and a talented receiving corps that includes Payton Ross, Holt Brownlee and returning star Stacy Jones.

Dawson emphasized that the culture is settling in and that the momentum built on last year’s foundation gives the team a solid platform as it looks toward the 2026 season.

Young players are expected to fill the gaps left by graduating seniors, and the coaching staff believes the blend of returning talent and fresh energy will keep the Mustangs competitive.
