Midwest Halos Commit to Controversial Breck Athletic Complex in Big Bend

The $175 million development promises new fields and amenities but faces community backlash over noise and traffic

The Midwest Halos, a youth baseball organization based in Muskego, Wisconsin, have become the first team to sign a commitment to the Breck Athletic Complex, a $175 million sports facility planned in the village of Big Bend.

The complex, approved by the village board after months of heated debate, will feature six baseball diamonds, multiple soccer and lacrosse fields, a hotel, and a collection of dining venues, aiming to become a regional hub for amateur sports.

Construction is slated to break ground this summer, with the baseball fields expected to be ready for play by the fall of 2027, while the broader site will continue to expand in subsequent phases.

Community Concerns Over the Project

Local residents have voiced apprehensions about increased noise levels, light pollution, and traffic congestion that they fear could strain the small village’s infrastructure.

Trevor Theissen, co‑owner of the Midwest Halos, said the new facility represents a long‑awaited solution to the club’s chronic shortage of dedicated outdoor fields, noting that the team has relied on an indoor practice space in Muskego for years.

The partnership also includes the Milwaukee Angels, another youth club that shares the same practice constraints, and together the two programs serve roughly 650 children across the region.

One of the developers, who previously had a child in the program, identified the need for quality sports fields and helped shepherd the project forward, hoping the complex will alleviate the persistent search for practice space.
