A New Chapter for Lake Erie Women's Basketball
Lake Erie College has tapped Mikayla Lopez to steer its women's basketball team into a new era of competition, appointing the former Bethany College coach to the program's top seat.
Lopez arrives after a four‑year stint at Bethany, where she guided the program to four straight PAC Tournament appearances and orchestrated the school's best record in two decades during the 2025‑26 season.
Her tenure at Bethany was marked by a rapid ascent, culminating in a 28‑win campaign that set a new benchmark for the institution.
Prior to Bethany, Lopez served two years as an assistant at Aurora University, where she helped the team set school records for points and three‑pointers in a game.
Her coaching journey also includes stints with AAU programs such as M14 Hoops Basketball Academy and QC Attack, as well as an internship with the Chicago Sky, where she assisted with marketing activities and events.
A 2019 graduate of Augustana College, Lopez was a standout point guard who led her team in assists and steals in 2017 and held a single‑season free‑throw percentage record.
She earned bachelor's degrees in business administration/marketing and political science before completing a master's in business administration with an emphasis on leadership from Aurora University.
Athletic director at Lake Erie expressed confidence that Lopez's blend of competitive experience and strategic acumen will elevate the program's profile and foster student‑athlete development.
Lopez herself said she is eager to build on the college's traditions while charting a course toward sustained excellence.
