Mike Bowman Takes the Helm of River Lakes Boys Hockey

Veteran coach brings a decade‑plus track record and a plan built on movement and defensive solidity

A Coach With Deep Regional Roots

Mike Bowman, a 48‑year‑old from Spicer, Minnesota, was recently approved by the ROCORI School Board to lead the River Lakes boys hockey team.

Bowman arrives with a résumé that stretches back to the late 1990s, including a stint that ended in 1998 before his latest appointment, and a history of guiding teams to championship levels, most notably the Mid‑State Mustangs’ Under‑16 national title in 2011.

ROCORI Activities Director Mitch Dorr emphasized that Bowman’s principles, experience and intimate knowledge of the co‑op’s geographic area were decisive factors in the hiring decision.

The River Lakes roster draws talent from seven different schools and last season showed signs of underachievement, yet both Dorr and Bowman agree the squad possesses untapped potential.

Bowman plans to institute a system that prioritizes constant movement and a disciplined defensive structure, while also arranging summer scrimmages and early meetings with players before June 1 to accelerate integration.

Beyond tactics, Bowman intends to leverage his connections with the River Lakes Association and his background in higher‑level hockey to help each player chart a path toward advanced competition and career advancement.
