A Weekend of Speed
Mike Christopher Jr., a 27-year-old competitor in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, is gearing up for an unusually tight weekend that will see him behind the wheel in two different states just days apart.
On Friday he will take the No. 62 Toyota, fielded by Halmar Friesen Racing, to Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. The entry marks a continuation of his involvement in the series and showcases the partnership with a team that has been working through a challenging start to the season.
After the Indiana race, Christopher will board a flight to New Hampshire to compete in the Duel at the Dog 200 at Monadnock Speedway on Saturday. The rapid transition includes not only travel but also work commitments that must be squeezed in between the two events.
The schedule is made more meaningful by his family's deep roots in Modified racing. Christopher's father and uncle both raced Modifieds, and his uncle captured the 2008 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship, a legacy that fuels his determination to seize every opportunity.
Within his program, Alan Dering has filed a second entry for the series event, and longtime associate Joey Mucciacciaro has been lending his expertise to fine‑tune the car's setup. Though the team encountered early-season struggles, recent improvements have sparked optimism as they prepare for the upcoming double‑header.
Christopher is acutely aware that his racing career will eventually wind down, but for now he remains focused on chasing his dream, supported by a family history, a dedicated crew, and friends who understand the unique pressures of the sport.
