A New Era Begins
Mike Chrivia, the former Bay High coach, has been appointed head coach of the Arnold boys soccer program, taking over a team that has enjoyed a decade of sustained success under Jonathan Hammond.
Hammond stepped down after ten seasons in which he guided Arnold to a 187‑23‑15 record, a 75‑game home winning streak at Gavlak Stadium, and a haul of three FHSAA state championships, five regional titles, nine district crowns and ten Bay County championships.
The program’s recent accolades include a 2024 MaxPreps national championship and five appearances in the state final four, underscoring the high bar Chrivia now faces.
Chrivia arrives after a modest stint at Bay High, where his team finished 8‑10‑3 last season, a record that belies the experience he brings to Arnold’s storied tradition.
Athletic director Karen Mitchell praised Chrivia’s deep understanding of the local talent pool and his ability to develop disciplined, competitive squads, expressing confidence that the coach can sustain the program’s winning culture.
The transition comes as Arnold looks to maintain its prominence in Florida high school soccer, a sport that has seen the school’s name synonymous with excellence across the state and national stages.
Community members and alumni have voiced optimism that Chrivia’s fresh perspective, combined with the foundation laid by Hammond, will keep the program competitive in the coming seasons.
With the new coaching staff now in place, attention turns to preseason preparations, player development and the upcoming schedule, all of which will test whether the new era can match the legacy left behind.
