Mike Golic Sr., a former Notre Dame and NFL defensive lineman, has been appointed the new color analyst for Notre Dame football radio broadcasts, stepping into the role vacated by Ryan Harris who is now pursuing law school.
Harris, who is now pursuing a law degree at the University of Colorado, leaves the broadcast booth after several seasons, creating a vacancy that the university has filled with a familiar face from its own playing ranks.
A Legacy of Experience Returns
Golic Sr. brings more than three decades of broadcasting experience, having served as a color analyst for both college and professional events from the ESPN booth. His deep‑rooted connection to Notre Dame football, combined with a career that includes stints in the NFL, positions him to offer a unique perspective to listeners.
The appointment marks the fourth permanent radio analyst the program has named in the past 42 seasons, following predecessors such as Allen Pinkett and Tom Pagna, underscoring the rarity and significance of the role within the university's sports media landscape.
Jim Fraleigh, Notre Dame’s deputy athletic director, praised the hire, stating that Golic Sr.’s blend of broadcasting expertise and genuine passion for the Fighting Irish makes him an ideal fit for the position.
Beyond the microphone, the Golic Family Foundation has hosted the SubPar Classic for five years, raising funds for local charities in South Bend, a testament to the family’s commitment to community service.
At 63 years old, Golic Sr. also continues to co‑host the ‘The Golics’ talk show with his son, Mike Golic Jr., further cementing his presence in the sports media ecosystem.
