A Season That Redefined St. John's Baseball
Mike Hampton, the Red Storm’s head coach, was recently crowned the ABCA/ATEC Northeast Region Coach of the Year, a distinction that underscores a campaign marked by excellence on and off the diamond.
Under Hampton’s guidance, the program captured its 39th NCAA Tournament berth and advanced to the Super Regional for the first time since 2012, defeating powerhouse opponents such as No. 10 Florida State and Northern Illinois in Tallahassee.
A Legacy of Leadership
Hampton joins Ed Blankmeyer, whose four regional coach of the year awards between 2005 and 2018 set a high bar for the university. This is only the second time a St. John’s skipper has earned the honor since 2004, joining a select group of coaches who have shaped the school’s recent dominance.
The Red Storm finished the season with a 36‑26 overall record and a 15‑6 mark in BIG EAST play, capping the year with a 6‑2 record in postseason competition and a final ranking of 20th in the D1Baseball poll and 24th in the Baseball America poll.
The coaching staff was recognized as the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year for the second time in three years, reflecting a sustained commitment to player development and strategic acumen.
The program’s resurgence is also evident in its academic and community impact, as the team maintained a high GPA and engaged in outreach initiatives throughout the season, reinforcing the university’s broader mission of excellence.
