Mike Boynton Jr., the newly appointed head coach of the University of Michigan men’s basketball program, revealed this week that Mike Martin will join his coaching staff as an assistant. Martin’s addition is part of a broader effort to fill three open assistant positions that emerged after several staff changes in the offseason.
A Veteran Coach with Ivy League Credentials
Martin spent 14 seasons at Brown University, where he compiled a strong record and earned Ivy League Coach of the Year honors in 2019. A Brown alumnus from the 2000s, he remains among the school’s all‑time leaders in 3‑pointers, steals and assists, having played four seasons for the Bears before transitioning to coaching.
The hiring underscores Boynton’s intent to blend fresh ideas with proven leadership. In addition to Martin, the staff will also feature veteran assistants Dusty May, Drew Williamson, Mody Maor and Justin Joyner, each bringing distinct experiences that the head coach hopes will translate into on‑court success.
