Mike Boynton Jr., the newly appointed head coach of the University of Michigan men’s basketball program, announced the addition of Mike Martin to his coaching staff as an assistant.

Martin arrives after a 14‑year stint at Brown University, where he became the program’s winningest coach and guided the Bears to their first 20‑win season in school history.
His achievements earned him the Ivy League Coach of the Year award in 2018‑19 and a career record of 171‑202 that includes postseason appearances in 2013 and 2019.
Martin’s reputation rests on his ability to develop players and navigate the recruiting landscape, traits that align with Michigan’s ambition to stay competitive in the Big Ten and on the national stage.
Grace Calhoun, who served as Brown’s Vice President for Athletics, praised Martin’s leadership and wished him success in his new role, highlighting the mutual respect that sparked the move.
His arrival comes as the Wolverines’ staff must replace departing assistants Drew Williamson, Mody Maor and Boynton himself, a transition that Martin embraces as an opportunity to invest in players as people and help them reach their fullest potential.
