Mike McKenna, a Middleboro native with more than fifteen years of coaching experience, has been appointed head women's soccer coach at Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay. He will begin his duties immediately and lead the Buccaneers into a 17‑game 2026 season that opens with a matchup against Curry College on September 1.
His career spans youth, high school and NCAA Division III levels, most recently as an assistant at Vermont State University–Castleton and as president of Middleboro Youth Soccer from 2015 to 2024.
During his tenure at Middleboro Youth Soccer, McKenna launched a summer camp that serves over a hundred players each year and led teams to two Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association State Final Four appearances.
A new era for Buccaneers soccer
McKenna expressed enthusiasm for the new role, saying the program’s tradition and community support provide a strong foundation for growth. The academy’s athletic director highlighted his proven leadership and ability to develop competitive programs as key reasons for the appointment.
The 2026 schedule will feature a demanding lineup of opponents, but McKenna believes the team’s unity and work ethic will translate into on‑field success. He plans to emphasize disciplined play and a culture of competitiveness as the season progresses.
