A Proven Track Record
Western Kentucky University has named Mike Mendoza as its newest assistant coach for the baseball program, tasking him with leading the team’s recruiting efforts and coordinating the hitting strategy.
Mendoza arrives after a decade of coaching across several collegiate programs, most recently at the University of New Orleans where he contributed to a 24‑win season, and prior to that as associate head coach at Tennessee Wesleyan, where the Bulldogs posted a 48‑14 record and earned a NAIA World Series berth.
His coaching journey also includes five years at Faulkner University, where he served as a recruiting coordinator and assistant coach, and stints at Southeastern University and other institutions, building a reputation for developing talent that reaches professional drafts.
Before transitioning to coaching, Mendoza excelled as a player at Glendale Community College and Iowa Wesleyan, earning All‑America honors at both schools and graduating from Iowa Wesleyan in 2013 with a degree in public relations.
Mendoza’s impact is underscored by the 20 players he has helped sign professional contracts, among them New York Mets prospect Alex Carillo, and by his ten‑year streak of attending NAIA World Series, highlighted by a national championship in 2022.
Athletic leadership at WKU believes Mendoza’s blend of recruiting acumen and hitting expertise will strengthen the program’s competitiveness and foster continued player development.
