Western Kentucky University announced the hiring of Mike Mendoza as its new assistant coach for the baseball program, a move that brings a decade of collegiate coaching expertise and a championship pedigree to the roster.
A Strategic Addition
Mendoza’s career spans stints at New Orleans, Tennessee Wesleyan, Southeastern (Fla.) and Faulkner University, where he helped guide teams to multiple winning seasons and a 2022 NAIA national championship. At Tennessee Wesleyan, his guidance produced a 48‑14 record, a berth in the NAIA World Series and accolades for Player of the Year Daniel Stewart and Newcomer Kolton Reynolds.
Head Coach Marc Rardin praised Mendoza’s talent evaluation and recruiting acumen, noting that his energy and positive attitude will enrich the coaching staff and the broader WKU Baseball family.
Mendoza, who graduated from Iowa Wesleyan in 2013 with a degree in public relations, expressed gratitude to Rardin and Director of Athletics Todd Stewart, and said he is eager to contribute to the program’s continued growth.
The addition underscores WKU’s commitment to building a competitive program, leveraging Mendoza’s extensive network that includes 20 players drafted or signed professionally, among them New York Mets prospect Alex Carillo.
