A Fresh Face in Laramie
Mike Mora, a junior forward from Palo Alto, California, has officially joined the University of Wyoming basketball program, bringing a blend of shooting precision and relentless work ethic that coaches hope will translate into immediate contributions on the court.
Having navigated a diverse collegiate path that included stints at Asheville School, the University of Vermont, and California State University, Monterey Bay, Mora arrives in Laramie with a proven track record of 17.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game last season, along with 120 three‑point makes over his final two years.
Coach Sundance Wicks praised the newcomer’s character, noting that Mora’s ability to connect with teammates and adapt to the team’s culture has been evident from the first energetic interaction.
Wicks emphasized that Mora’s physicality as a wing, combined with his defensive focus on guarding smaller guards, positions him to earn significant minutes as he integrates with Wyoming’s veteran core.
A Journey Shaped by Mentors
Mora’s journey from the Bay Area to prep school in North Carolina, followed by a season in Vermont and two years at CSUMB, reflects a deliberate strategy to sharpen his skills across varied competitive environments.
The forward also credits his older brother Brendan, who played under Nick Whitmore at New Hampton School, for recommending the coach who now guides him, describing the relationship as a second family bond.
Beyond the numbers, Mora is concentrating on refining defensive techniques, rebounding, and setting screens, aiming to become a versatile piece that can shift the team’s dynamics in the Mountain West Conference.
