Mike Mordocco has officially joined the Yale men’s soccer staff as an assistant coach, a move announced by head coach Kylie Stannard that signals a fresh infusion of championship experience into the program.
A Strategic Addition for the Bulldogs
Mordocco arrives after a distinguished tenure at Long Island University, where he guided the Sharks to four Northeast Conference tournament titles and four NCAA Tournament berths, including championship wins in 2021, 2023 and 2024.
His coaching journey spans several power‑house programs; he served as associate head coach at the University of Massachusetts from 2014 to 2018, helped Connecticut reach three NCAA quarterfinals under Hall of Fame coach Ray Reid, and previously contributed to Stony Brook and SUNY Oneonta before launching his head‑coaching career at LIU.
Known for blending player development with academic rigor, Mordocco built a recruiting pipeline that leverages advanced performance analytics, a philosophy he says aligns with Yale’s emphasis on both athletic and scholarly excellence.
A former starter on Connecticut’s 2000 NCAA championship squad, Mordocco holds United States Soccer Federation National C, Youth and Advanced Goalkeeping licenses, and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics before embarking on his coaching path.
Mordocco expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, citing the Bulldogs’ tradition and the chance to work alongside an exceptional staff and student‑athletes as key draws for his next chapter.
