Mike Ott, a seasoned baseball strategist with a two‑decade track record of program transformation, has accepted the role of head coach for Eastern Michigan University’s baseball program.
During his eleven‑year stint at Kalamazoo College, Ott turned a modest squad into a national contender, capturing multiple Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular‑season titles and guiding the team to its inaugural NCAA Tournament victory in 2022.
His teams have amassed a 316‑233‑1 career record, produced the program’s first All‑Region and Academic All‑American honorees, and earned four 30‑win seasons, the first of which arrived in 2017.
The move was confirmed by Eastern Michigan’s athletic director, Scott Wetherbee, who praised Ott’s ability to “cultivate a culture of excellence both on and off the field,” citing his fundraising acumen and facility upgrades as key assets for the Eagles.
Ott’s coaching pedigree stretches beyond Kalamazoo, encompassing eight seasons as head coach at Holland Christian High School, where he led the Maroons to conference crowns in 2005 and 2008 and district titles in 2006 and 2011, as well as stints at Texas A&M‑Corpus Christi, UNLV, and Calvin College.
A former pitcher and two‑year captain at Calvin College, Ott helped the Knights secure MIAA championships in 2000 and 2002, laying a foundation of competitive grit that he now brings to Ypsilanti.
