Mike Parme Joins UVA Basketball Staff as Director of Analytics

Former VCU analytics assistant and Bard College economics graduate brings data-driven expertise to the Cavaliers

The University of Virginia announced this week that Mike Parme has been appointed director of analytics for the Cavaliers' men's basketball program, bringing a fresh data-focused perspective to the team's coaching staff.

A data-driven addition to the Cavaliers' staff

Parme comes to Charlottesville after a season spent at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he served as a graduate assistant under head coach Ryan Odom during the 2024-2025 campaign.

During that time he also remained with the Rams under Phil Martelli Jr., taking on the role of director of analytics and overseeing the program's statistical infrastructure.

The new analytics chief is a 2024 graduate of Bard College, where he earned a degree in economics, a background that he says equips him to translate complex data sets into actionable strategies for player development and game planning.

Parme took the opportunity to thank Coach Odom for the trust placed in him, saying he is eager to contribute to the Virginia men’s basketball program and help the team achieve its competitive goals.

Coach Odom praised the hire, describing Parme as an outstanding addition whose passion, work ethic and meticulous attention to detail will strengthen the program's analytical foundation.

The appointment underscores the growing importance of analytics in college basketball, a field that has seen a steady infusion of expertise from both academic and professional backgrounds. With a strong educational foundation and practical experience at two of the sport's prominent programs, Parme is positioned to help the Cavaliers leverage data in pursuit of on-court success.
