The Millikan baseball team saw their historic 2025‑26 campaign come to a close on a cool San Diego evening, falling 5‑2 to Point Loma in the CIF State Division II playoffs. The defeat marked the final chapter of a sports year that has defined Long Beach’s high school athletics.
Entering the tournament as Moore League champions, the Rams surprised many by securing a spot among the state’s elite, a feat that underscored the program’s rapid rise under first‑year head coach Jeff Fink.
Starter Austin Brett took the mound and worked four innings, surrendering two runs before turning the ball over to reliever Maison Crommie, who struggled through two frames, allowing three additional runs that stretched Point Loma’s lead.
Point Loma’s Wyatt Smith answered with a complete‑game effort, limiting the Rams to two runs on ten hits while striking out several key batters, a performance that kept the Chargers in control.
At the plate, Millikan’s lineup produced several bright spots. Daunte Bell, Alan Machado, Xavier Kennard and AJ Nonato each delivered solid at‑bats, while Lucas Helig and Jacob Amado drove in runs with timely RBI singles.
Looking Forward
With a core group of underclassmen gaining playoff experience, Millikan’s front office is already mapping out a strategy to build on this season’s momentum, aiming to return to the state stage with a stronger roster and refined pitching staff.
