Carvell Brooks, director of the Brew City Youth League and coach of the C.L.E. Panthers, launched the first Battle of the State camp, bringing together 14 of Wisconsin’s top youth teams for children aged seven to thirteen.
The initiative was sparked by the September 2025 shooting of Deon Sargent, an 11‑year‑old whose death has been woven into the camp’s message of choosing life over violence.
Looking Ahead
Brooks envisions the camp becoming an annual tradition, eventually culminating in an all‑star game at Jimmy Banks Memorial Stadium, and he is actively seeking donations to upgrade the league’s facilities.
