A vibrant gathering in the Indian Ocean
From July 26 to 29, the 2026 African Mini Basketball Convention transformed the capital of the Comoros into a hub of activity, drawing 470 children aged five to twelve and 70 coaches, among them 15 international delegates.
Organized by the FIBA Foundation, the FIBA Regional Office Africa and the Comoros Basketball Federation, the event combined on‑court drills with a focused coach‑education program led by FIBA experts Guillermo Calvo and Nour Amri.
Beyond the games, the convention distributed 500 basketballs and 24 Mini Basketball hoops, tangible tools that will travel back to participants’ home countries to seed local clinics and sustain the Mini Basketball methodology.
The FIBA Foundation, the social and legacy arm of FIBA, underscores its commitment to using basketball as a vehicle for empowerment, education and cultural heritage, a mission echoed by the foundation’s global “Basketball For Good” projects.
As the convention drew to a close, the momentum it generated promised to ripple outward, with coaches and delegates poised to replicate the training models they acquired in their respective nations, strengthening the developmental pipeline for the sport across the continent.
