The Professional Women’s Hockey League’s Minnesota Frost announced on Tuesday that they have re‑signed defenseman Lee Stecklein and forward Grace Zumwinkle, locking both Olympians into multi‑year contracts.
Olympic pedigree and contract details
Stecklein, a four‑time U.S. Olympian, agreed to a two‑year deal, while Zumwinkle, a two‑time Olympian and the league’s 2024 Rookie of the Year, signed a three‑year contract.
Both players were also added to Minnesota’s protected list as part of the PWHL’s third phase of expansion, a move that underscores the franchise’s intent to build around proven talent.
Stecklein, 32, brings a wealth of international experience, having represented the United States at four Olympic Games and earned a reputation as one of the premier shutdown defenders in women’s hockey. A native of Roseville, Minnesota, she is a two‑time Walter Cup champion and will begin her fourth season with the Frost.
Zumwinkle, 27, also boasts a strong Olympic résumé, having competed for the U.S. in two Games. In her rookie season she captured the league’s Rookie of the Year award and finished tied for fifth with a career‑best 13 goals and 23 points.
The re‑signings come as the PWHL continues its expansion strategy, adding protected players from new markets and solidifying the competitive balance of the league. With both athletes under contract, the Frost aims to remain a cornerstone franchise as the league grows.
